Canine Reproduction and Whelping Guide by Debbie Jensen
What Can go Wrong ?

This is my Isis, a 5 pound Chinese Imperial Dog.
Isis's' first litter went without event. This movie is Isis's second litter.
The x-ray showed normal size pups heads capable of passing out her pelvis.
My friend Wayne and Kat were over and Wayne I’m told is known as Dr Doolittle.
The first and third pup came out easy. This movie is about puppy 2
The puppy was alive and had pink toes during the entire time.
I suspected the head was too large to pass and the x-ray was read wrong.
We discussed if we had enough time to get Isis in the car with the pup in
the position it was in.
Then Wayne got both shoulders out and we stayed to whelp the head.
Isis was very uncomfortable but was not hemorrhaging and the pup was
still pink and getting oxygen from attached cord.
Suddenly Wayne eased his finger in and felt that the pups head was twisted.
The x-ray was correct. We had a twisted head. My one and only in 35 years.
The puppy expired as soon as Wayne discovered the head was twisted.
If I could of seen into the future I may of gone to the vet for a planned c-section.
I am leery of c-sections because many mothers and pups never return home. The end shows the pup. You can see her head is normal size.
This was not common to me. I am sure it’s not common for any breeder.
Isis had another girl after this. She came out with ease.
Isis and the 2 girl pups are doing fine.
I was in awe of Wayne's gentleness and calmness. He really is the Dr Doolittle of Vegas
Wayne breeds and raises Arabian horses. Wayne has many animals on his ranch,
Kangaroos Monkeys, Penguins and Chinese Imperial Dogs
Wayne and his wife Kat are wonderful loving people and I owe them.
So do I feel guilty. Yes, my heart hurts.
Should I jumped up at the first sign she was stuck.
I dont know.! My head says no,
because half the pups I have delivered were stuck at some point.
If you can get the shoulders out I always save the pup.
I wish this one was saved. All life is precious to me

The movie is long and is graphic
and may not be right for some viewers.
Give it time to load.
Read the left side of the page to understand
what is happening as the movie loads.
